Recently, Judge Faust of the Third District Court has granted the Salt Lake Tribune's motion for summary judgment in a open records case involving Sandy City. The case involves the Tribune's request for compensation records for Sandy City employees, including police officers, firemen and other civic personnel. In 2004, the city initially refused to handover the records, citing privacy as it denied the GRAMA request.
Jones Waldo media attorneys Mike O'Brien and Mark Tolman worked on the case and Tolman argued the summary judgment motion two weeks ago -- now knowing he was successful.
Jones Waldo has proudly represented the Salt Lake Tribune and other media outlets for several years. Some of their representation has helped the media protect freedom of the press and the ability act as the fourth estate in reporting on public affairs through government records.
The firm and the Tribune are pleased to gain access to the important documents and to strategically navigate the open access laws that make investigatory journalism possible. |
