Jones Waldo’s Eminent Domain practice group has significant experience in representing both private landowners and condemning agencies in eminent domain cases. We have represented state and local government agencies, as well as public utilities and other entities empowered by law to acquire land by condemnation, in the acquisition of private property for public use, and the determination of just compensation.
We likewise have represented numerous individual and institutional landowners in eminent domain proceedings brought by condemning agencies, securing full and fair compensation for land taken (or, where warranted, successfully resisting takings altogether). We also have initiated and successfully prosecuted actions on behalf of landowners to force governmental agencies to acquire land which regulation or other governmental action has rendered unusable, a legal action known as “inverse condemnation”. We sometimes represent landowners on a contingent fee basis.
